Welcome to the ACCESS Research Portfolio page.  The ACCESS Research portfoilo is designed to align closely with the Department of Science and Technology’s global change Grand Challenge Research plan and also dovetails with the ACCESS Education and Training Portfolio.

Currently ACCESS Research operates through seven ACCESS Thematic Area Sub-programmes (see links below). Through these Theme Projects our partner instututions and the ACCESS funded post-gaduate students conduct over 80 individual projects all of which are detailed in the ACCESS Research compendium (please see here).

The fundamental goal of the ACCESS Research portfolio is to answer one basic question: how does southern African function as a whole earth system (of systems), how did it function and how may it function in the future in response to natural and anthropogenic forcing?
